I have a Passport to Splurge (2)

Day 2
I departed from the hotel with Ellie and my driver to the arranged Homestay Kampung SriPaya. I was looking forward to the Homestay the most. I was told that different villages could apply for grants that allowed tourist to stay in their homes to they’d have the true Malaysian home experience with a Malaysia family.

Ellie informed me that the Homestay village I was visiting previously did not have roads. With the money that had been earned from the homestay they were able to build the roads to make it easier for the farmers to travel to the local markets to sell their goods. The homestays gave the opportunity to stay with host families in their “kampang” (village) lifestyle. This truly was the best way to experience and taste the love and warmth of the Malaysia’s traditional communities.
During my homestay they let tap rubber trees, eat and visit a mushroom farm and watch the women make handcrafts souvenirs. However, my favourites part was being given the opportunity to cut my own coconut down from a coconut tree and drink the juice straight from the coconut (cause as most of us know, it is very hard to find fresh coconuts in Australia).
